General CSA FAQ:
What is a CSA?
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture.
A CSA runs for a certain number of weeks (often based around a harvest season) where members generally pick up a box of freshly harvested produce weekly from a local farm. There is a set, upfront cost for the entire season instead of paying each week or per item. This helps the farm cover upfront growing costs at the beginning of the season when there is less income coming in from farmers markets, etc. but there are many costs to pay for to get the farm up and running.
What are the benefits of being in a CSA?
Being a CSA member means getting the freshest, most local produce while being able to support a local, diversified (and in our case, Certified Organic) farm. You get to know your growers and meet other members. You will be eating in season, which means you will get to anticipate and be excited for certain things when you get them (strawberries! asparagus!) and learn new recipes for ingredients you may have never used before (parsnips! kohlrabi!). Being in a CSA can be an exciting adventure in eating and cooking, and allows you to be connected to your food in a way that traditional food shopping does not.
